About this puzzle
The otter fills the middle of the picture, from its webbed back feet right up to its nose, caught mid stand with both paws tucked under its chin like it’s waiting its turn to speak. A recent swim has slicked the coat into fine points down the back and the pale throat. Behind it the background melts into soft bands of forest green and warm brown.
Otters rise onto their hind legs like this to see over tall grass or water, a move keepers call periscoping. Standing tall lets them scan for trouble and keep an eye on the rest of the family, and since they don’t need those front paws for balance, the paws just hang there looking dignified.
How to play
