An otter has flopped onto a smooth pale rock and rests its chin on the surface, eyes almost shut. Warm light rakes across its face and lights up a fan of pale whiskers. It’s a picture of an animal that isn’t going anywhere.
About this puzzle
Shown side on, the otter lies with its head low and its body stretching back into shadow on the left. The muzzle and closed eye sit in soft focus at the center, and one dark webbed forepaw reaches onto the stone. The rock is a warm grey with faint cracks and speckles, lit from the right so each whisker throws a thin shadow.
Otters are busiest around dawn and dusk, so they’ll spend much of the day hauled out on rocks or banks like this, drying off and dozing. A spot used again and again is called a holt when it’s a proper den, or a couch when it’s an open bed out in the light.
How to play
Start by choosing the piece count. Move pieces with mouse or touch, and the right ones lock in as you go. Check the finished image any time, and take as long as you want.
Tips for solving this one
The lit face and pale whiskers are the place to start, then follow the head back into the darker body. The webbed paw on the rock makes a good early landmark. The pale stone has just enough cracks and speckling to sort by, so fill it in around the otter and work outward.
