About this puzzle
The otter sits upright in the middle of the frame, head and long neck raised in full attention. The swim has spiked its coat into a rough texture from the crown down the back, while the face and throat stay smooth and pale. Behind it there’s a plain wash of sandy beige with one darker band, so the shape of the animal reads clearly.
North American river otters have a double coat, a dense underlayer for warmth and longer guard hairs that shed water. Straight after a swim it often looks spiky like this, and it won’t settle back into the usual sleek form until the fur dries.

Tips for solving this one
The raised head and the bright eye are the sharpest point, so begin there and build the smooth pale face and throat.
