An otter pushes up out of a stand of reeds at the edge of a pond, fur soaked flat and whiskers clumped into wet points. Green blades cross in front of it, and behind, the water’s pale and calm.

About this puzzle

The otter sits a little left of center, head turned slightly toward the camera, its dark wet body half hidden by the grass it’s climbing through. The face is the brightest part, a warm grey brown with a broad muzzle and heavy dripping whiskers. Sharp green reeds cross the frame in front, and the pond behind is a soft blur of tan and green.

Otters have water repellent guard hairs, but a long swim still leaves the coat wet and matted like this until they groom air back into it. That grooming, done by rubbing on grass and rolling on the bank, is what keeps the underfur dry, and without it an otter can’t hold its body heat.

How to play

Choose a piece count and start placing. Mouse or finger both work, and correct pieces click into place for good. The finished picture’s there when you want a look, and nothing’s timed.

Tips for solving this one

Work the lit face first, then the dark body behind the grass, using the clumped whiskers to place the muzzle. The reeds in front are all much alike, so fit them by the angle of each blade. Save the pale blurred pond for last and build it in from the top corners.

Common questions

Is it free?
Yes. Nothing here costs anything, and there’s no account to create.

Does it work on a phone?
It’ll run on a phone fine. A bigger screen just makes the wet whiskers and the reeds easier to place.

Can I change the difficulty?
Yes. Choose fewer pieces for a light game, or more if you’d rather spend real time on the reeds. Set it before each round.

Will it save my progress?
The board holds your place while the tab stays open, and it resets once you leave.

Rather hold the pieces?

If cardboard and a corner of the table sounds better, otter jigsaw puzzles come in every piece count. Shop otter jigsaw puzzles on Amazon.
