About this puzzle
Emperor penguins raise their chicks through the harshest winter on Earth. The male balances the single egg on his feet under a fold of skin for around two months without eating, while the female is away at sea. When the chick hatches it stays on a parent’s feet for weeks, since a minute on the ice could freeze it.
In this photo the adults form a wall of glossy black backs, white bellies and golden yellow ear patches, several with their heads bowed. The gray chick stands at the bottom center with a second chick tucked under a belly to its left, and the snow stretches away pale and flat behind them.
How to play
Decide how many pieces you want, then drag them into place with a mouse or your finger. A piece that fits snaps and locks. Preview the full image any time you need it, and there’s no time limit.
Tips for solving this one
Start with the chick, then the yellow ear patches, which are scattered across the picture and give you fixed points. Build each adult from its head downward. The black backs and white bellies make bold shapes, and the snow along the top and bottom is the plainest area, so leave it for last.
